Last week some of the AiQ team attended and contributed to a HAL Clean Vehicles Partnership (CVP) event which highlighted Heathrow’s plans for EV charging installations and the transition strategy.
At the event, led by Trevor Waldock MBA (Head of Airside Ops HAL) and organised by Balwinder (Bal) Dhaliwal (Business Change Lead under Carbon Programme) the HAL Project Manager Warren Sullivan presented HAL plans for EV charging station installations, while Jordan Bryant from Virgin Atlantic gave insights into how they transitioned effectively as a case study. The Transport Research Laboratory team then gave behavioural impacts and assessments overview from their studies across different industries.
At AiQ we are helping HAL with their EV transition strategy for the White fleet airside (standard cars and vans) and we are looking at all demand and capacity in terms of energy and infrastructure availability that would give the necessary confidence to the community (both Airport and Users i.e. airlines/ground handlers/contractors etc) to transition their airside fleet to Electric Vehicle from Internal Combustion Engines.
Head of Airport Planning Mevin Varghese gave an introduction on how AiQ are supporting HAL and the community by validating the science behind all the infrastructure planning and execution to meet the demand with sufficient headroom. Our Senior Airport Planner Anushka Deepak Padhye presented the numbers from our static analysis of overall view (end state) and informed the attendees on the dynamic simulation that the AiQ team, featuring Airport Analyst Mohammed Osama, are carrying out to prove the math with all possibilities of usage variation, failures etc. Our newest Airport Planner Jaime Castiblanques then engaged the crowd with a quiz to lighten up the session which ensured active participation in the awareness campaign. Charlotte Holter and Adrian Todd from AiQ were also in attendance!
It was a really engaging event where a lot of knowledge was shared in our common goal of a smooth transition to EV for Heathrow!
